Watch what you say...

So, remember when I whined about the less-than-stellar heat distribution of my Emile Henry pot a few weeks ago? Well. A few minutes ago I put it on the stove and put some oil in it. I turned on the flame, and set to work chopping onions and garlic. And then I looked over at the stove to see how the oil was doing and there was oil dripping from the bottom of the pot. I rushed over to look at it, and yes, there is a hairline crack running the length of the pot. I almost cried. My $200 pot, which lives a life more pampered than many house pets has a f&**ing crack in it!

Apparently Emile Henry pots do not enjoy being slandered on my blog.

I decided to contact Emile Henry USA to complain and discovered that all their products have a 3 year warranty. So, we're well within warranty time (the pot is 27 months old)! I've sent an email to their customer service and hopefully I'll have good news to report here soon.

Unbelievable. I have super duper cheapo skillets that i bought for $2 each from IKEA five years ago that I still occasionally use (twice a month?) that at least have the courtesy not to break.

That is one emotionally sensitive skillet you've got. I suppose you'd better watch out -- it might have friends in the mafia or something.

that is fate. yep, don't bash anything. it will come back around. i also have some great pots i got from the second hand store and they don't break. i also have one that i got from ross that is a stainless cusinart pot that totally rocks, but i do miss my le cruset, and my kitchen aid mixer for that matter. damn divorce.

whoa.
well, thankfully with the warranty you will have the privilege to determine whether you got a crappy pot or if Emile Henry has gone down the tubes recently. I know they're spendy pots...Le Cruset is the best way to go in my book...cast iron without enamel next, all-clad stainless steel with aluminum core next...I could go on and on. I have to admit to using a good deal of really cheap nonstick recently...only because I'm just starting my business and need lots of pans I can cook with AND clean in a hurry. Heat distribution sucks...

I think you had a hairline crack BEFORE you ranted about your pot, though.
And I hope you just got a dud. Otherwise, word to all ya'll ladies out there: go to estate sales and buy all the Le Cruset you can find!

i'm pretty sure that le cruset is available only on brooklyn street corners--and likely comes with a hairline crack built in as a feature. le creuset, on the other hand, makes excellent products in france, which can be had at your finer kitchen stores.

:)

oh, and teflon, etc. non-stick = teh poison.
