Check out this cool regionalism test! Actually, do more than check it out. Take it, and tell me what your score was. I *heart* regionalisms in a big way. When I lived in Boston my friends and I would collect them; Boston is a treasure trove of regional dialect. I got 47% Yankee on the quiz (Just barely) and Robert got 64% Dixie (A definitive Southern score!). Frosting/icing was our most amusing disagreement about what was "correct", and if you hear me say (or type) "the frosting on the cake" in the future, you'll know why!

when you live in the greater new york area, you desperately wish you knew how to get "money for nothing" because then you wouldn't be in dire straits any more. but then, if you could get money for nothing you wouldn't be in the greater new york area any more either. more like the mediterranean coast.

I would like to add to the quiz: what do you call that little place where you can buy drinks, snacks, (possibly gas) and frozen water without having to go into a large supermarket? It's an ice house my friend (and no, that's not where you buy your booze and play pool).
We (Brian and I together) are 53% Dixie. Agreed on most everything except what you might call carbonated beverages-- we called them cokes or pops growing up, changed as adults to soda.
My addition to the quiz is what you call another place that's relatively close but that's still separated from you by an acre or so -- "yonder" and "pasture" were both words that came to mind.....or perhaps the fact that I know what an acre is is telling????

Dire Straights sings "Money for Nothing" I still sing along when I hear that song. Okay, so truthfully I sing along to most 80's songs.
